1. How Glimmer Is Funded
Glimmer is funded primarily through display advertising served by a third-party advertising network. We do not sell supplements, training programs, or consultations, and articles are not written to promote any specific product or service.
This approach is a deliberate editorial choice: by relying on broad-based display advertising rather than commissions tied to specific products, no single advertiser's spending is large enough to influence which topics our contributors choose to cover or how a given article concludes. Display advertising revenue fluctuates with overall traffic and general advertising market conditions and is not tied to the performance of any individual article, so there is no internal incentive to write more favorably about a topic simply because it historically attracts higher-paying advertisements. We disclose this funding model voluntarily, in the interest of transparency, even though Indonesian law does not currently impose a specific disclosure format for editorial websites of our size and type. Readers who wish to understand our funding model in the context of our broader editorial standards should also review our Editorial Policy, which describes the separation between our business operations and our contributors in more detail.
2. Display Advertising
Advertisements appearing on this Site are generally served by automated advertising networks based on general contextual relevance and, where you have consented to advertising cookies, your browsing interests. Glimmer's editorial team does not select individual advertisements and does not review them for factual accuracy before they appear, though we may block categories of advertising inconsistent with our editorial standards, such as advertising for unproven medical treatments.
Because advertisements are placed automatically through a network rather than negotiated individually, Glimmer's editorial staff typically do not know in advance which specific brand or advertisement will appear alongside a given article; placements can change from one page view to the next depending on the advertising network's own auction process. We do, however, maintain a list of advertising categories we ask our network to exclude from this Site, including advertising for unproven medical treatments, weight-loss products making specific numerical claims, and financial products promising guaranteed returns, consistent with the subject matter of our articles. If a reader encounters an advertisement that appears inconsistent with these exclusions or otherwise inappropriate for this Site, we welcome a report through the process described in Section 7 below, including a screenshot where possible, so that we can investigate the matter with our advertising network directly.
3. No Sponsored Articles at This Time
At present, Glimmer does not publish sponsored or paid articles. If this changes in the future, any sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such at the top of the article, consistent with our editorial policy.
This section will be updated promptly if our practice changes; we do not intend to introduce sponsored articles without first revising this disclosure to reflect the new practice. If we do introduce sponsored content in the future, it would be visually distinguished from regular editorial content through a labeled banner near the headline, such as "Sponsored Content" or "Paid Partnership," and would be subject to the same factual-accuracy expectations described in our Editorial Policy, including review by at least one editor independent of the commercial relationship. We would also maintain a running list of any sponsorship relationships on our About page for as long as the relationship remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward, so that readers can evaluate our historical independence.
4. Affiliate Links
Glimmer does not currently participate in affiliate marketing programs. Any future use of affiliate links would be clearly disclosed within the relevant article.
An affiliate link is a link to an external product or service that pays the linking website a small commission if a reader makes a purchase after clicking it; because Glimmer does not currently use such links, no portion of our current revenue depends on readers purchasing any specific product mentioned, in passing or otherwise, within our articles. If a product, book, or service is mentioned in an article, it is mentioned because our contributors or editors consider it relevant to the topic being discussed, not because of any financial arrangement with the maker of that product. Should Glimmer introduce affiliate relationships in the future, we would disclose this both in a revised version of this page and with an inline disclosure statement at the top of any article containing an affiliate link, in line with general advertising-disclosure practice in digital publishing.
5. Separation of Advertising and Editorial Decisions
Advertisers have no role in deciding which topics we cover, how we frame them, or what conclusions our contributors reach. Our contributors are not informed of which advertisers are active on the Site at any given time, to avoid any perception of influence.
This separation is maintained structurally rather than merely as a stated policy: our advertising operations are handled by administrative staff who do not participate in editorial meetings, and our contributors submit article drafts through a process that does not reference current or prospective advertisers. Editorial topics are selected based on reader interest, seasonal relevance, and gaps in our existing archive, as described further in our Editorial Policy, rather than based on which advertising categories happen to be active on the Site at a given time. We do not accept payment, free products, or other consideration from any company in exchange for a favorable mention within an article; if a contributor were to receive such an offer, our editorial guidelines require them to disclose it to the editorial team and decline to write about the company in question.
6. Cookie-Based Advertising
Where you have consented to advertising cookies, our advertising network may use cookie identifiers to serve more relevant advertising. Details on the specific cookies used are described in our cookie policy, and you may withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time through your browser settings.
The specific advertising cookie currently in use, ad_pref_id, together with its typical duration of up to thirteen months, is listed in the cookie table within our Cookie Policy; it does not store your name, email address, or any directly identifying information, but rather an anonymous identifier used to group similar browsing patterns for advertising purposes. You can withdraw consent for this category of cookie at any time, which will cause our advertising network to revert to serving non-personalized, contextual advertisements based only on the content of the page you are viewing. Our advertising network may also allow you to adjust your ad personalization preferences directly through its own settings interface, independent of the cookie controls on this Site, which can provide an additional layer of control for readers who interact with the same advertising network across multiple unrelated websites.
7. Questions
If you have questions about advertising on this Site, including a specific ad you have seen, please contact us via our contact form.
We treat advertising-related questions as a standard part of reader correspondence rather than a separate complaints channel, and we aim to respond within five business days during normal business operation from our Jakarta office. If your question concerns a specific advertisement you believe is inconsistent with the content exclusions described in Section 2, please describe the advertisement, the approximate date and time you saw it, and the article page it appeared on, as this information helps us investigate the matter with our advertising network more quickly. For questions regarding data processing connected to advertising cookies specifically, you may also wish to review the rights described in our Privacy Policy, which apply equally to advertising-related personal data.
